Portland Breakfast News: Author Loses His Mind … and Eight New Brunches

I may be about to give up on tracking Portland breakfast news.

I mean, I am supposed to be good at this, right? And reasonably up to date? That’s why I was shocked to read “A Batch of New Brunches” from Portland Monthly’s Eat Beat. It’s a list of eight new brunches in town … and I’d basically never heard of any of them. There are links and notes at the link, but here’s the list: Xico, Ataula, Bar Dobre, Teote, P’s and Q’s Market, Korkage Wine Bar, Trinket, Mama Leo’s.

This causes me headaches on multiple levels, because there’s a lot of eating and writing to do before I finish up the new edition of Breakfast in Bridgetown. Just choosing from Portland restaurants that serve breakfast and/or brunch, I have 139 names on the list!

So here’s my question: What goes in the book?

Do I not include the newest places? Just go with my favorites? Emphasize the popular places? Or the less-known ones? Or go for a thorough sampling, based on cuisine … or location … or price?

In Other News …

Open again, apparently.

Open again, apparently.

There’s ongoing legal chaos at Salty’s, which I guess is … kind of open again? That’s what their Facebook page says, as of this evening (October 10). Good for them.

And Por Que Non on Mississippi is closed for renovations and expansion. No legal chaos there!

Okay, remember to leave a comment, with a suggestion for how to select places for the book. And we’ll see you next week.
